Travis Porterfield: A Journey in Southern Song

I was born and raised in Watkinsville, Georgia. I was lucky enough to grow up in the shadows of the University of Georgia. (Go Dawgs!) My story is one that weaves through the heart of Southern culture and the melodies that echo across its landscapes. From a young age, I found joy in the music that filled our home. My dad had a fondness for spinning records and sharing the timeless tunes with us on weekends. With the windows open and the attic fan on, the music would pour through the house and through those open windows. Hearing a range of artist like Willie Nelson, Waylon, Jennings, The Beach Boys, Otis Redding, Hank Williams Jr. and many others, I learned to love music and the stories it could tell.

As a proud Southerner, I try and channel the essence of the South into my own music, crafting songs that speak to the soul of the south. Through the lens of a Southerner's viewpoint, I find my voice as a songwriter, penning tales of life, loss, and love that resonated with audiences near and far.

In 1997, I made the pilgrimage to Nashville. I found myself surrounded by a community of talented musicians and songwriters, each eager to share their knowledge and expertise. From the honky-tonk bars to the songwriting circles, I soaked up every lesson and inspiration, learning from the greats who had come before me and honing my craft along the way. For three decades, I have been blessed to collaborate with fellow musicians and share stages with legends of the industry.

Throughout my life I have experienced many joys, many laughs, triumphs, and tremendous heartache. As I look back on my journey, I am grateful for the love and support of my family, friends and the countless blessings that God has given me. As I continue to write, sing, and share my music with the world, I am reminded of the timeless truth that music has the power to unite, inspire, and uplift. For in the end, it is not just about the songs we sing, but the stories we tell and the lives we touch along the way. And as long as there are stories to be told and hearts to be moved, I will continue to write the soundtrack of my Southern roots, one song at a time.

"WHERE FOREVER ENDS"

From The Joelton Hardware Store. Had a great lineup that night. Mark Miller on bass, Shakey Fowlkes on drums, Becca on keys, Tommy G on guitar and Eliot Houser playing some lap steel.

"Texas In My Windshield"

Me on my front porch playing a song for Colleen. I wrote this not long after we started dating. Just as I start playing I see a Hummingbird. Just a nice afternoon Andy Griffith moment in Westhaven.

"You Can't Always Get What You Want"

Fun Night at Joelton Harware. Turkey Ramble 2022. Mike Appleman on drums, Chris Stewart on bass, Becca Darling on keys, Melinda Stenburg on fiddle, and Tommy G & Elliot Houser on guitars. If you're connected to good speakers for streaming and like a jam, this is good one. We sure had a lot of fun playing it.
